20+ places to donate your stuff

Where do you donate your stuff? Cleaning out your storage or getting ready to move has left you with a stack of items you want to donate. With, you can search for local charities that need the items you want to give away. You can also call local charities to see what items they will accept. Please read and follow the charity’s guidelines when donating. Most ask for gently used items only and fashion that is current.

Below is a list of possible organizations you can donate to. Use Charity Navigator to find more groups. Charity Navigator also evaluates the performance of a charity.


Habitat for Humanity

Salvation Army



Check with your library; local nursing homes; vet retirement homes; youth clubs and shelters; and women abuse centers if they want to accept books.

Operation Paperback

“Operation Paperback is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Pennsylvania, whose volunteers nationwide collect gently-used books and send them to American troops overseas, as well as veterans and military families here at home. Since 1999, we have shipped over 1.9 million books to locations around the globe.” Read more

“We will pass on your precious wedding gown to a military bride in need. We do our best to give away gowns that are up to date with current trends. We accept gowns less than five years old.” Read more

There is a variety of organizations that will accept used cars. Including but not limited to the following organizations.

Purple Heart

Fast pick-up of used cars. Funds used for:

  • Financial support for veterans & their families
  • Education & Scholarships
  • Legal representation for veterans’ claims

National Foundation for Cancer Research

“Have a car, SUV, motorcycle or boat you no longer need? Consider donating it to NFCR. In partnership with Charitable Auto Resources, Inc. (CARS), NFCR will pick up the vehicle for free.”

Cell Phones

Operation Graditude

Uses funds to send packages to soldiers.


Goodwill, Salvation Army, and many more charities accept clothing.

Schoola sells donated clothes. They will mail you a bag to put your child’s clothing in and whenever your item sells some of the profits is donated to a school of your choice.

The following two organizations collect business attire for job interviews.

Career Gear

Career Gear accepts men suits, dress shirts, belts, shoes, ties, overcoats, watches, and briefcases.

Dress for Success

Dress for Sucess collects women’s business attire for interviews. Will accept nearly new suits, handbags, jewelry and unused make-up.


World Computer Exchange

“Computers from WCE are for use in public settings to help connect more youth in developing countries to the Internet at low cost.” Read more.

Gift My Computer

The organization finds a local non-profit who can use the equipment.

Christina Foundation

Maintains a database of local charities you can donate your electronics to.


Do you have coupons you won’t use or have expired? Please read this article that offers suggestions where you can donate them.

Donate Your Expired Coupons to Our Military Troops.

The organization accepts serviceable complete or nearly complete bikes as well as parts.


Gift Cards

Make-A-Wish Foundation

Make-A-Wish accepts a variety of donations including Hotel Loyalty Points and frequent fliers miles.

Greeting Cards

Didn’t entirely use your box of greeting cards? Nursing homes, shelters, and youth clubs appreciate donations of unused greeting cards.

St. Jude’s Ranch

Accepts used greeting cards that are 5″ x 7″ or smaller with no writing on the back of the front of the card. A training program uses these cards.


Donate old towels, sheets, socks, etc to an animal shelter.


Dress for Success accepts jewelry. See description of the group in the clothing section.

Indigo Rescue

An organization for abandoned animals.

This group collects soccer equipment.
