Where do you donate your stuff? Cleaning out your storage or getting ready to move has left you with a stack of items you want to donate. With HeroSearch.org, you can search for local charities that need the items you want to give away. You can also call local charities to see what items they will accept. Please read and follow the charity’s guidelines when donating. Most ask for gently used items only and fashion that is current.
Below is a list of possible organizations you can donate to. Use Charity Navigator to find more groups. Charity Navigator also evaluates the performance of a charity.
Check with your library; local nursing homes; vet retirement homes; youth clubs and shelters; and women abuse centers if they want to accept books.
“Operation Paperback is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Pennsylvania, whose volunteers nationwide collect gently-used books and send them to American troops overseas, as well as veterans and military families here at home. Goodwill, Salvation Army, and many more charities accept clothing.
Schoola sells donated clothes. They will mail you a bag to put your child’s clothing in and whenever your item sells some of the profits is donated to a school of your choice.
The following two organizations collect business attire for job interviews.
Career Gear accepts men suits, dress shirts, belts, shoes, ties, overcoats, watches, and briefcases.
Dress for Sucess collects women’s business attire for interviews. Will accept nearly new suits, handbags, jewelry and unused make-up.

Make-A-Wish accepts a variety of donations including Hotel Loyalty Points and frequent fliers miles.
Also accepts gift cards.
Didn’t entirely use your box of greeting cards? Nursing homes, shelters and youth clubs appreciate donations of unused greeting cards.
Accepts used greeting cards that are 5″ x 7″ or smaller with no writing on the back of the front of the card. A training program uses these cards.
An organization for abandoned animals.

“We accept donations of gently-used band and orchestral instruments in playable and good cosmetic condition. They will be refurbished and sent to school music programs. Some instruments may not meet our quality standards and will be sold on our eBay charity page where 100% of the proceeds will be used to purchase new instruments.
